Transforming Lives: Rehabilitate, Retrain, and Rehome Retired Racehorses project update.

Updated: Nov 30, 2023

We were thrilled to announce a groundbreaking initiative that promised to make a lasting impact on the lives of retired racehorses when we were awarded a Grant from the Animal Welfare Fund Grants Program from the Victorian State Government 12 months ago for our

“Retired Racehorse Rehabilitation and Rehoming Expansion Project”

About R.A.C.E.D: R.A.C.E.D is a visionary charity dedicated to ensuring a brighter future for retired racehorses. We recognises the immense potential these majestic animals possess beyond the racetrack and aim to provide them with the care and opportunities they deserve.

.Objectives of the Project:

1. Rehabilitate:

  • The project focussed on the physical and emotional rehabilitation of retired racehorses. Veterinary care, tailored nutrition, and specialized rehabilitation programs will be implemented to ensure these magnificent animals transition smoothly into their post-racing lives. 2. Retrain

  • R.A.C.E.D is committed to offering comprehensive retraining programs for retired racehorses. Skilled trainers will work closely with the horses to introduce new skills, such as dressage, show jumping, and pleasure riding. This not only broadens their skill set but also enhances their chances of finding loving homes.

3. Rehome:

  • A crucial aspect of the project is finding forever homes for the rehabilitated and retrained horses. R.A.C.E.D will collaborates with equestrian communities, and individuals passionate about providing a second chance to these incredible animals. 4. Facilities

  • One of the basic needs of all horses is to provide protection from the weather, needless to say the installation of much needed Paddock Shelters was a welcome addition to four of our horse paddocks. We have also installed four undercover yards to assist in our operation and to provide the required facilities to carry out our important work

The secured grant from Victoria's Animal Welfare Fund Grants Program was a significant milestone for R.A.C.E.D. It serves as a testament to the project's commitment to animal welfare and the vision of creating a sustainable model for the aftercare of retired racehorses only made possible thanks to the funding we received.

How You Can Contribute:

  • Volunteer: R.A.C.E.D welcomes passionate individuals with experience in horse care, training, or rehabilitation to volunteer their time and skills.

The project is a testament to what can be achieved when compassion, education, and diversity come together for a noble cause. With the support of Victoria's Animal Welfare Fund Grants Program, R.A.C.E.D is poised to create a legacy of compassion, one retired racehorse at a time. Together, let's celebrate the journey of transformation and ensure that every retired racehorse finds the love and care it deserves.
